Other Medications on Discharge
Prophylactic GI meds and bowel regimen: due to multiple pain medications, your stomach can be upset and you can have constipation. Thus, we will have you on GI prophylaxis and bowel regimen.

Blood thinner: you are going to be at risk of blood clot due to joint replacement surgery. In order to prevent this, you are going to be on any of the following medications for 4 weeks
Aspirin 81 mg twice a day: for most patients
Aspirin 325 mg twice a day: if you weigh more than 120 kg
Eliquis 2.5 mg twice a day: if you cannot tolerate aspirin or if you are at high risk of developing blood clot
Customized meds: for some of you who are on other anticoagulation, you will get back on your meds soon
Antibiotics: in order to prevent surgical site infection or infection in your replaced joint, you will receive antibiotics before and after the surgery
Extended oral antibiotics (Cefadroxil 500 twice, Bactrim DS twice, or Clindamycin 300 three times a day for 7 days): for high risk patients*
*high risk patients: BMI ≥ 35, diabetes, active smoker, chronic kidney disease, autoimmune disease, nasal colonization with MRSA/MSSA, others (sepsis, hepatitis C, chronic cystitis, stasis dermatitis, traumatic catheterization, surgery within 3 months of cortisone injection)
